How to use DeepSeek with Codex over Remote SSH

Install on the remote extension host, not just on your computer.

  1. Connect to the Linux SSH host. In Extensions, find the SSH: your-host group rather than Local.
  2. Install both openai.chatgpt and dzr.codex-local-model-switcher there. Check Bash, Python 3, GNU utilities, VS Code Server and the remote Codex config.
  3. Use Show Current Codex Source Status in that remote window. A remote account with a separate home has a separate choice; another SSH alias to the same home does not.

Do not publish SSH addresses, authentication files or raw logs. The helper's missing-dependency message should be resolved on the remote host, not by replacing API keys.
