How to use DeepSeek with Codex in VS Code

Install in the right place, select the provider and reload when ready.

1. Install dzr.codex-local-model-switcher alongside openai.chatgpt in the local or remote extension host. Initialize your existing Codex setup and privately back up its configuration.
2. Save your work. Run Codex Source: Use DeepSeek Direct and enter your key in the masked input if requested. A stored key can be reused.
3. Choose Reload current window when ready. Check Show Current Codex Source Status, then separately send a minimal request in a disposable folder. This may incur service charges.
