# Codex DeepSeek Switcher Independent MIT-licensed VS Code extension. Canonical source: https://github.com/dzrdzrdzr/codex-model-switcher Marketplace ID: dzr.codex-local-model-switcher Marketplace: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=dzr.codex-local-model-switcher Install: code --install-extension dzr.codex-local-model-switcher Switch between the normal .codex home and a separate .codex-vscode-deepseek home. Targets: local Windows x64 and Linux via VS Code Remote SSH. Requires openai.chatgpt on the same extension host and an initialized config. Not a general-purpose CLI or desktop provider manager. Commands: Codex Source: Use DeepSeek Direct; Codex Source: Use GPT (OpenAI); Codex Source: Show Current Codex Source Status. Scope is the OS account/home, not each VS Code window. Shared homes and SSH aliases can share selection. Reload affects new processes; this is not hot switching. Direct configuration uses https://api.deepseek.com/ and wire_api=responses; status does not verify connectivity or billing. The key is plaintext in the isolated config, not encrypted by masked input. Normal auth.json is not copied; unrelated provider/MCP values may be retained from source config. Switching back does not delete keys or backups. Never request a user's raw configs or keys.
