How to switch VS Code Codex back to OpenAI / GPT

Select the normal profile without deleting either provider configuration.

1. Run Codex Source: Use GPT (OpenAI). This selects the normal .codex directory; its existing contents still determine which provider actually runs.
2. Save work and reload. Existing processes keep their original environment until restarted. Same-home windows share the saved choice.
3. Check your original Codex setup. Switching back does not repair an already broken normal profile, erase the DeepSeek key or restore the pre-extension executable setting.

To stop using the switcher, select the normal profile, disable the extension, restore the previous chatgpt.cliExecutable override (or remove it if none existed), and reload. Do not delete .codex. Check the repository guide before restoring remote compatibility settings.
